Welcome to the Minburn Community Betterment Group website.
Minburn, A Small Town with a Big Heart, has great plans for 2008. Whether you're from the area or are looking at exploring life in a small town, you'll want to make a stop in Minburn.
Our final outdoor concert is coming up on Saturday, September 20 with the versatile duo, Switchback. The Minburn Elementary Boosters will refreshments and area children will have been in school for a month, so come out and hear their stories. We have coffeehouses scheduled for October and November, with very interesting and talented musicians.
We've had fantastic weather and contented crowds for our summer events. A Wild West Show, HomeGrown Tomatoes and the Mike & Amy Finders Band provide great entertainment. Community groups serving delicious food such as homemade ice cream, and the skating rink filled with courageous, smiling skaters makes for a wonderful evening.
July 4th is so big in Minburn we got a jump on the fun with MidLife Crisis performing a great show on Thursday night at the Big Heart Stage. The July 4th festivities start with cinnamon rolls and a parade, end with fireworks and have everything in between from pie auctions to races for the kids. Since we had perfect weather for 2008, it was great fun for lots of folks.
The Minburn Community Betterment Group is working on plans the save the historic Minburn Depot and create a trail head for the Raccoon River Bike Trail expansion. The Minburn Depot is worth saving so if you would like to help or have stories about the Minburn Depot please email meetme@minburn.org. See "Our Community" area for meeting times.
If you enjoy roller skating grab your skates and head to the Big Heart Roller Rink on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The roller rink and concessions stand are in Meek Park in the center of Minburn. The roller rink was once home to the "Singing Wheels", a group of up to 150 talented towns people and performed in the 50's bringing up 10,000 people to Minburn over a three day period with their musicial performance on wheels.
Minburn offers two B&Bs, Purviance Farm west of Minburn and opening in July, Creative Hearts Inn and Retreat, "Where hearts create works of art." We welcome people to stay awhile and enjoy some small town hospitality.
There are many other places to visit in the area and you will find them on Our Community page with contact information.
It is going to be an exciting year in Minburn. Please keep checking back and welcome to Minburn.
Thanks,
MCBG
